In The Hall of the Mountain King

In the Hall of the Mountain King

This pigeon sculpture installation was made for the event Long Winter: Galleria Mall on Jan 30th 2016. Part of the long winter concert series in Toronto, this event was hosted in the Galleria Mall, a 1972-era shopping mall with distinct low-arched ceiling passages. Although the mall was still heavily used by local communities at the time of the event, the land was sold in 2015 to be redeveloped into mixed use condo towers and a park. The pigeon was made of plastic shopping bags which we canvassed current tenants of the mall to donate to us. An icon of urban adaptation, the plastic pigeon is on display in a tomb like hall, slated for destruction.  The pigeon is however a survivor and rises like the phoenix.
